Pill Box hats are my all time suggestion for that timeless addition to the wardrobe.
When we think pill box hats we immediately reminisce of style icons Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn and more recently princess Kate Middleton; these stylish women wear this style perfectly.
Out of a need to wear a hat Jackie Kennedy started the trend of wearing the hat perched on the back of her head. Perfect for the full high hairstyles of the day (I think its funny that this lady hated hats!); but our more modern day icon Kate Middleton wears the style in a way more modern fashion framing her youthful beauty, wearing the hat often with her hair down or loosely tied.
Her hats are always unfussy and simple, who wouldn’t want to look as elegant as Kate… she wears them so well.
Pill box hats were born from a fashion echoing military styles as early as 1930s the small hat was often bejewelled and adorn with netting. In the 1960s Dior and Givenchy produced pill box hats as part of their catwalk collections in Paris.
In my collections I am lucky to have a wide range of hat blocks (the moulds used to shape the hats) some which are vintage, others are more up to date styles all lovingly carved by master block makers in Luton.
So I can reproduce these timeless pieces which we all love.. the pill box screams versatility.
the hats I make can be produced in a wide range of fabrics, silk, wool, velvet, straw the list is endless. My hats are a labour of love, these small hats are totally hand sewn, small neat stitches to give a seamless professional piece, a good design, and well balanced trim. The hats are lightweight (no glue – my pet hate!).
Hats that are a small work of art something you will love to wear again and again.
Personally the Pillbox Hat is a staple of our hat wearing wardrobe. A hat that is timeless, a hat that can take us through a wedding, graduation, garden party or one of those I need to wear a hat day its my number one – the icing on the cake!!!
